Honestly, Yorkville doesn't have a lot going on, besides its historic courthouse. The character of its small downtown was forever changed with the slashing of a busy highway (IL-47) through it. I only stopped by after visiting Plano, since it wasn't far out of my way.
Yorkville is a city in northeastern Illinois which is the county seat of Kendall County. It has a population of 23,835 people as of 2022.
Yorkville was settled in the 1830s. It was originally two separate towns--Bristol north of the Fox River and Yorkville south of it. The two merged in 1957. When Kendall County was established in 1841, Yorkville was selected as the county seat, but it was briefly ousted by Oswego for a period of 13 years. However, the seat returned to Yorkville in 1859, where it has remained since.
Like many other towns within a reasonable distance of Chicago, its railroad presence resulted in growth within Yorkville. Some industrial buildings were built, and the city's population increased. However, Yorkville's most rapid growth has come within the past few decades, as its population soared from 3,422 in 1980 to 21,533 in 2020.
